Carbon monoxide exceedance

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to advise residents that the Continuous Emissions Monitoring data indicated an exceedance of the carbon monoxide (CO) four hour rolling average at the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC). CO is monitored as an operational parameter indicating combustion performance. All other emissions were in compliance.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to advise residents that ambient air quality test results have indicated an exceedance for total suspended particulate (TSP) at the Rundle Road ambient air monitoring station. The June 12, TSP measurement at the Rundle Road Station was 126 µg/m3, exceeding the 24-hour Ontario Ambient Air Monitoring Criteria (AAQC) of 120 µg/m3 by five per cent. Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents that Covanta, the operator of the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC), has restarted boiler #2 after taking it off-line for annual maintenance which was advanced to repair a damaged water tube within the boiler. Boiler #1 was restarted after completing the annual scheduled maintenance.

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to advise the public that after assessing the condition of boiler #2—which is currently undergoing repairs to a damaged water tube—as a precautionary step, Covanta the operator of the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC) has decided to take boiler #1 offline as well to assess its condition. Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to advise the public that scheduled annual maintenance, at the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC) has been moved up to accommodate the ongoing unplanned outage of boiler #2.
