Unplanned outage at Durham York Energy Centre

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to advise the public that boiler #2 at the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC) will be off-line for unscheduled maintenance to repair a damaged water tube within the boiler. The facility operator, Covanta, has shut-down the affected boiler until a repair can be completed. Boiler #1 continues to operate and the facility continues to accept waste.

The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to advise residents that the owners, Durham and York Regions, and the operator, Covanta, are undertaking an investigation into the cause of the fire at the Durham York Energy Centre on Dec. 11 and conducting a damage assessment.

Whitby, Ont. – The Regional Municipalities of Durham and York have issued the Acceptance Certificate for the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC).

The facility Acceptance Test Certificate was issued and Commercial Operations began at the DYEC on Jan. 28.
